Food Consumption Around the World

I posted on it before, but it still amazes me how much corn Americans consume.

Americans don't actually "eat" that much corn as food. Not even as corn chips and corn flakes. More we consume it corn syrup and food like substances. Perhaps this also includes all the other uses for corn such as food for livestock, and fuel stock. Subsidies for corn make it cheap.

Good point. Michael Pollan estimates that less than 56lbs of that corn directly, while the other goes towards livestock and ethanol as you mention.
